Dear Editor and Student Body of the
Something is happening in Student Government. In two days, the Student Body President, has attacked the leadership of both the Legislative and Judicial Branches. He has accused three members of the Legislative Cabinet of corruption, bitterness, vengeful hearts, and called us evildoers. In the early morning of Wednesday September 17th in a judicial hearing, Mr. Barnes stood up, and ranted about the Associate Chief Justice and called her a corrupt bully. This Associate Chief Justice, is a 17 year-old young woman, and she is far from a bully.
During Mr. Barnes' unprovoked speech, the Chief Justice, who at the beginning of the meeting had informed everyone in the audience that there was to be no commentary from the audience, asked Mr. Barnes to leave the chambers. Mr. Barnes would not comply, and when Chief Justice Ewing demanded Mr. Barnes leave the Chambers for being out of order, Mr. Barnes threatened to file non-compliance on the Chief Justice. For keeping order during the Chief Justice’s meeting?
This same Mr. Barnes is the President Barnes who accused me of using fear-tactics, and having a tyrant’s stranglehold on the Senate. When it is in fact this Mr. Barnes who is the fear-monger and TYRANT! He uses his influence to scare Senators into voting with his party in a bloc. His party has been known to tell these Senators how to vote preceding Senate meetings in closed-door meetings and even through text messages.
As for corruption, it is this Mr. Barnes who has appointed his girlfriend as well as the president of his fraternity as Assistant Directors to Executive Agencies within Student Government. Mr. Barnes is now the only person who has the authority to fire his girlfriend and fraternity brother. In the military this is called fraternization and is strictly forbidden: as in people get fired for this.
It is the same Mr. Barnes who has used the cronies in his cabinet to bully the other members of the other branches and members of the Student Body.
It is one of his cronies, Mr. Joshua Baker, Student Government Director of Athletic Affairs, who on the morning of Wednesday September 17th at 12:43 sent me a text message reading "grow some". The person who sent this text message is a paid member of the executive cabinet. These are the people that your tuition is paying. This was completely unprovoked and unwarranted. This should not be allowed. This person is not representing your best interests as students.
It is his cronies who on the night of Monday September 15th kicked off of their Senatorial ticket a Senator for disagreeing with them and not being loyal to this party. It is not ironic that this party is indeed very red much like communist
Mr. Barnes is determined to gain as much power as possible, regardless of the cost to the students. Mr. Barnes is determined to gain as much power as possible, regardless of the laws he breaks. Mr. Barnes is determined to gain as much power as possible, regardless of the lives he ruins, the friendships he burns, and the destruction he causes.
Mr. Barnes and his party are TYRANTS! And when the other branches of the Student Government stand up to his tyranny, he gets scared. And in his fearful state he tries, he tries so hard, to strike fear into others.
Students, this individual does not have your best interests at heart. Surely, he will attack me after this, but he will only be able to use false accusations. He will not provide you with any truthful scenarios where I have been evil or unfair. He will try to intimidate those of you who hold positions of influence. In the Greek Councils, he will try to take power away from those who stand up to him. He wants only to promote himself and dissolve the current separation of powers in Student Government.
Do not let him get away with this! Stand with me and oppose his tyranny. Stand with me in boldness against the Barnes’ Party’s assault on reason and independence. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt once told our nation in a time when many were afraid to stand up to a tyrant, “We have nothing to fear, but fear itself.”
Students, we can put an end to this, for you as a whole are stronger than anyone in Student Government. Show Mr. Barnes that his fear tactics will not be tolerated. Tell him that the only legacy he will leave is one of defeat.
